I would certainly stay again.Huangpu District, Shanghai, China, 200010Ĭentrally located in downtown Shanghai near the famous Yu Garden and Old Town, the superior first-class Renaissance Shanghai Yu Garden Hotel is just minutes away from the Bund, Yuyuan Bazaar, Xintiandi entertainment district and other major tourist attractions. I supposed you could request on in advance with the concierge. When there are a lot of people needing taxis, they give you a number and you wait your turn until one shows up. Upon departure, there was a line of people waiting and it took just about 30 minutes until we got one. There was always a long wait to get one and I do not know why. The only downside was getting taxis at the hotel. I think the location is excellent it's a 10-15 minute walk to the Bund, the same to Nanjing Road, and, like I said, Metro station across the street. The Metro is super easy to use and there is button on the ticket screen that changes the on-screen text to English. The concierge was helpful in providing directions and recommendations for day trips and instructions for using the Metro subway with an entrance that is just across the street from the hotel. We had access to the club lounge and enjoyed breakfast daily (Chinese and western breakfast fare, made-to-order omelettes-I loved the lean bacon) and evening cocktails and hot hors d'oeuvres. A stairway near the entrance to the gym takes you to a lounge and another spiral stairway takes you to the pretty extensive rooftop lounge with lots of seating areas to take in the skyline views. I really enjoyed the indoor pool near the top floor of the hotel and appreciated the steam room and showers in the locker room. (My friends requested a room change because of their view and the hotel accommodated their request and moved them.) All of the standard amenities are provided: toiletries, hair dryer, slippers. We had a great view from our room but our friends at the other end of the building on the same floor had a view of the construction site so, if the view is important to you, ask for a nice one when you check in. I was concerned about the glass wall between the bedroom and the bathroom but found that shutters lower to provide privacy. The room was two double bed with plenty of room for my companion and I to spread out both our stuff and ourselves without being cramped. The front desk is an elevator ride up from the ground floor. The check-in process was quick and efficient and we were up in our room within five minutes of arriving. I enjoyed my stay here and would come back again. It is also walking distance to a metro stop which was convenient. The location of this hotel is very close to an old town which made for some fun shopping hours. ![]() Then everytime I point to an item to put in my order, he would put in 1 single piece. Because I didn't speak the language, sometimes he would serve others before me since I would have to stand there and wait for him to catch my eye. The young man doing the noodles and dumpling was a little "strange". The breakfast was east and west which we enjoyed. The room was spacious for just the two of us and the hotel had everything we couldn't bring in our luggage for loan. With the hotels help, we were able to see most of what we planned and stumbled into some others. This is my first visit to Shanghai and we were trying to not use tours and see if we could find our own way around the city. They were helpful and really made you feel like a value guest. ![]()
